ABOUT CARP PHYSIO

Physical therapy, or PT, is a healthcare profession that focuses on helping people improve their mobility, reduce pain, and restore function. It’s often used to treat injuries, chronic conditions, and postoperative recovery.

In the past, physical therapy was primarily seen as a passive treatment, where patients would receive modalities like heat, ice, or electrical stimulation. However, today’s physical therapists are more focused on an active approach, using exercise and movement to help patients heal.

These modern physical therapists are essentially movement specialists. They assess a patient’s body mechanics, identifying any imbalances or discrepancies that may be contributing to their pain or dysfunction. By understanding the root cause of the problem, they can create a personalized treatment plan that involves targeted exercises and manual therapy techniques.

Manual therapy is a hands-on approach that involves techniques like soft tissue mobilization and joint manipulation. These techniques help to improve range of motion, reduce pain, and restore normal function.

One of the most significant changes in recent years is that many patients no longer need a doctor’s referral to see a physical therapist. This means that people can directly access PT services to address their mobility concerns, which can often lead to faster recovery and better outcomes.

FAQs

Who can benefit from physical therapy?

Anyone having a limitation due to pain, weakness, loss of motion or mobility, can be helped by physical therapy.

Do I need a prescription from my doctor before I start physical therapy?

We can perform an evaluation prior to getting a prescription, but current law requires we have one for continued treatment if it is necessary.

What should I wear to my appointments?

Loose fitting clothing that you would be comfortable exercising in is preferred. Also a closed toe or “sneaker” type shoe is most appropriate.

Can I bring my children or other family members to my appointments?

Due to patient privacy concerns we ask that family members and children remain home unless they are a caregiver for the patient.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Thursday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am – 2 pm.
